They Won't Stay Dead!

With the upcoming release of the movie '28 Weeks Later', BBC has a movie quiz for us to test how much you know about zombie shows for the past 70 years. Nothing really interesting, but it's a quick (10 questions only) and short quiz for the fans of zombie genre especially.

Anyway, '28 Weeks Later' is set to show in M'sia on the 10th of May. I'm not putting high hopes on this, since Danny Boyle is no more directing it (he directed the previous one - '28 Days Later') but still in the production team of the movie. I'm still gonna watch it for the sake of continuity, since I've already watched '28 Days Later'.

Nearest 'Eye Candy Stall' Upgrading...
The nearest "Eye Candy Stall" (cinema) to my current place in SS15 would probably be TGV Sunway Pyramid, and they are upgrading to serve movie-goers better. Rumours are saying that there will be up to 10-12 cineplex halls available, and it might be located to the new phase of Pyramid. If all is good, then the "better" TGV would be much worth it to go for, and also nearer for me. I wouldn't have to go as far as GSC 1 Utama or Cathay in The Curve to enjoy quality cineplexes.
The lousiest TGV would not be in Pyramid, but the one in 1 Utama. There are no toilets (correct me if I'm wrong) upstairs in the cineplexes, you would have to go downstairs near the counter to take a leak if needed.

Review: The Departed (2006)

For me, normally Martin Scorsese films are like drinking coffee. I do not hail coffee as my addiction, or it's the greatest thing on earth. It's good, but not all the time. Generally, the products of Scorsese are hard to swallow, but good when it's inside of you. It gets you thinking a lot. The scenes are very memorable. I still remember very vividly a scene in "The Aviator" where Howard Hughes glides his hands along a plane, admiring the shape and design. So, Scorsese shows are not pop-corn movies and it doesn't appeal to everybody. But surprisingly, there's so much to offer in "The Departed". It's kind of easier to swallow. I felt that it's not overrated, and it deserves the Oscars. It's the perfect cop and villain movie which is one of it's kind. I have not watched "Infernal Affairs" yet, but I hail this material as brilliant work even if it's the same with the Hong-Kong version. Mark Whalberg's character is hard to forget which most would agree with me, and Jack Nicholson shines as usual. In fact, most of the memorable scenes are having Jack inside. All of it.

Review: Pan's Labyrinth (2006)

"Laberinto del fauno", or "Pan's Labyrinth" is not a show for the faint-hearted, but for those who understands that in the world of fantasy and imagination, reality still lurks behind. The story tells us that Ophelia, the main character of the movie, still has to face the harsh real world in the midst of being surrounded by elements which you can find in "Alice In Wonderland". Not to spoil the show, but I feel that the ending of the story presents us a very vague picture. It is up to us to decide how we decipher the events that had happened throughout the movie, whether it is real or just in the mind of Ophelia. I don't really like these kind of shows which you have to make up your own mind, but it does help us to discover and rethink about the show more deeply. Probably in a spiritual sense.
Generally the show has quite a number of "eye candy" scenes, the one I love the most is the "Pale Man" scene. Go ahead and watch this show, just for that scene.

Review: Bridge to Terabithia (2007)

Of all the shows that's been shown lately, "Bridge to Terabithia" was something that turns out to be very unique and meaningful. Not entirely the plain old fantasy/adventure movie you would expect, but it's a very different kind of experience which strikes deep into the inner human heart. It's a show which explores the wonderful friendship between the two main characters. It also brings us the balance between the two worlds of fantasy and reality for the characters in it. The whole story was beautiful and heartwarming. After watching the trailer, what you hope for may not be in the movie but that's the big surprise of all. This show is recommended for anyone who has a heart.
The key lesson that I've learn throughout the whole show is that when bad things happen, it's part and parcel of life. It's something which everyone has to go through with, whether you accept it or not. The beauty of life is that life still goes on, no matter what happens. God is still in control of the world.

Eye Candy!

The phrase "eye candy" simply means "something that is most remarkable for its visual appeal", according to Wikipedia. Mind you, "eye candy" here doesn't mean good looking chicks. My blog's title uses this phrase, especially because I love films which has lots of eye candy. By far, the most remarkable eye candies come from films such as Lord of the Rings, Matrix, Sin City, 300 and films alike. It's like a visual explosion when watching these shows. That's why I've changed my blog's header image to fit the blog title more accurately, with a scene from "The Matrix". "Bullet-time" is the key word here.

GSC Holland Film Festival

GSC is having a Holland Film Festival on 26 April to 2 May 2007, only in GSC Mid Valley. I think it's the first ever of it's kind, after having so many other countries as it's film fest. theme (France, Japan, etc.). After checking out the list I found out that according to online reviews, many of the shows are not really worth watching. There are only a select few which are good, and I will highlight them here. Again, for a limited time of only 7 days, don't expect to catch all of them in the cinema. So, best advice is to check the reviews first before going.

Blue Bird (2004)

For the new series of six Telefilms the socially engaged director Mijke de Jong chose the subject of pestering. Using an observing camera, the film follows Merel, a twelve-year-old girl, who from one day to the next falls victim to harassment at school. Not because she is shy, stupid or ugly - Merel sings in a musical, excels in all subjects and is a sports fanatic - but because she coincidentally becomes the butt of a power scheme. Initially, the badgering takes place surreptitiously, but then it becomes ever more frequent, open and especially violent...

'Phantom of the Opera' at Singapore's Esplanade
This is a quick post on my trip to Singapore's 'Phantom of the Opera' musical at Esplanade Theater. The show was a blast, and it's definitely the one performance which you must see in your life whether you're a musical fan or not. For the ticket price of $160 Singapore dollars, it's worth it. This show is what I call a 'high-end' theater production, which not only has good performing casts but jaw-dropping scenes which leaves you stunned for minutes. Real live eye-candy.
